These error code explanations can help you diagnose a problem with your GE refrigerator with a digital display on the dispenser control panel.
Error codes appear on the dispenser control panel display when the electronic control board detects component failures. When an error code appears:
Code | Meaning | Possible Cause | Possible Parts |
FF | Check frozen foods for thawing | Freezer temperature has been above normal for more than 2 hours. Make sure that the refrigerator and freezer doors are closed properly. Replace the door gaskets if damaged. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other system failures. If the PF code appears, then the FF code was likely caused by a power failure. Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to allow the interior temperatures to recover | Door gasket |
PF | Power has been interrupted | Make sure that the power cord is properly plugged into the electrical outlet. Replace the power cord if damaged. Check the condition of food in the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Discard any spoiled food. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other failures | Power cord |
CI | Ice maker not operating properly | Clear jammed ice cubes from the ice mold. If the ice mold isn't filling with water, restore the water supply to the ice maker. If you turned off the water intentionally, also turn off the ice. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other system failures. If the CI code reappears, replace the ice maker assembly | Ice maker assembly |
dE | Defrost system error | The defrost cycle has not run for more than 48 hours. Unplug the refrigerator and reconnect any loose wires in the defrost system. Replace the wire harness if damaged. Replace the defrost heater if damaged. It may be normal for the refrigerator to operate without defrosting for more than 48 hours when operating in a space that's below 55 degrees F. Reset the code by pressing the System Check button | Defrost system components |
CC | Freezer temperature is too warm | Freezer temperature has been above normal for more than 2 hours. Adjust the controls according to the instructions in your owner's manual. Close the refrigerator and freezer doors completely. Replace the door gaskets if damaged. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other system failures | Door gasket |
Code | Meaning | Possible Cause |
tC | If the temperature display shows a tC (could look like an EC, an upside down F with a C or something similar), this is not an error code, it is the Turbo Cool (tC) setting indicator | For more information about this feature, visit: Refrigerator - TurboCool Setting |
tF | If the temperature display shows a tF (could look like an EF, an upside down F with an F or something similar), this is not an error code, it is the Turbo Freeze (tF) setting indicator | For more information about this feature, visit: Refrigerator - TurboFreeze Setting |
